Global Economic Crisis Series
In the globalized world of the 21st century, the lines between a nation's economy, its national security and overall international security are entirely permeable, as the current global economic crisis vividly illustrates. As the fallout from the economic crisis continues to ripple around the world, CNP has launched a new study series examining current and emerging economic issues in regions with a particularly direct impact on both America's security and global security broadly.
The inaugural events in the Center's "Global Economic Crisis" Series focus on Mexico and Pakistan. Instability in the former threatens to cross the border with a major potential impact on the US economy; instability in the latter has profound links to America's national security as the US continues to battle the spread of Taliban and Al Qaeda forces in the region, with a stable and thriving Pakistani state being central to that mission. Following these events, CNP will examine additional regions of exceptional global importance as well as issues impacting the global economy overall.
