Finance and Office Manager
The Center for National Policy, a non-profit organization fostering bipartisan dialogue and finding solutions to America’s national security challenges for over 25 years, is seeking a Finance and Office Manager.
Job Summary:
The Finance and Office Manager is an exempt, confidential position, whose primary function is to manage a variety of general office activities and staff support. FOM reports to the Executive Director.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains all financial records: including bank deposits, investment purchases, bank reconciliations, voided/cancelled checks, audit and tax records and paperwork; Monitors expenditures and make recommendations for cost savings; Creates finance and management reports: Board/ Finance Meetings; Budgeting/Forecasting; expense distributions; Partakes in budget planning and estimations; Serves as primary point-person for annual audit; Pays all bills; maintains petty cash account; Processes all financial associated requests/documents: eg: Tax exempt certification renewal and 990 information requests.
- Serves as point person for recruiting and hiring all staff; Manages performance and salary review processes; maintains all personnel records and files.
- Serves as CNP liaison with auditors, accountant, investment advisors, building management, subtenant, outside vendors.
- Reviews and monitors all administrative procedures and policies and provide suggestions to streamline and simplify when feasible.
- Plans for, attends, takes and transcribes notes for Board meetings; prepare financial reports for Finance Committee.
- Tracks incoming donations and submits monthly summaries.
- Processes and submits payroll, manages all benefits.
- Maintains and manages all issues regarding office equipment and personal equipment (eg: blackberries, cell phones, etc.)
- Provides logistical support of all events/functions as needed, including annual Muskie Award program.
- Supervises Office Assistant.
- Minimum 5-6 years experience working as professional Office Manager, preferably in a non-profit organization
- 2-3 years experience with accounts payable and QuickBooks
- Strong administrative and organizational skills, with an emphasis on time management and the ability to plan, organize and implement multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to follow through on multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment; deadline oriented; requires little oversight to complete tasks.

- Good interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all levels of staff, Hill staff members, Members of Congress, guest speakers and trainers; and administrative, financial, logistical, and operational contacts.
- Working knowledge of PC-based word processing and spreadsheet applications.

Internships
General Internships
The Center for National Policy (CNP) offers full-time and part-time unpaid internships for talented undergraduate students and recent graduates, typically for the duration of a semester. As an intern, your work will involve providing research and logistical assistance to CNP’s programs. Current and planned projects address the national, economic, and regional security challenges facing the country today. Interns work directly with CNP staff and are exposed to the workings of the Washington policy process. General responsibilities include attending Hill briefings, attending speaking events, giving weekly oral presentations on various research topics to interns and staff, and writing a 15-20 page research paper.
Candidates should have strong analytical ability in addition to excellent writing, computer, and organizational skills. Background preferred in political science, economics, history, international relations or similar field.
Interns are expected to devote approximately 15-20 hours per week during the school year and schedules are flexible. Resumes are kept on file for a six-month period and will be submitted for consideration each time a position becomes available. Internships are available on a for-credit basis during the academic year.

Website
Intern
In
addition to the general duties listed above,
the Website Intern will
assist the Press Secretary and Event
Manager/Communications Associate
in managing CNP’s website. Specific duties
include, but are not limited
to the following:
Migration of
Website/ Establishment of Blog:
•
Helping to implement framework for migration
of content to a newly
designed website and assisting in the
establishment of a blog;
• Assisting with
migration of content from current site to new
platform and maintenance of blog;
•
Researching ways to promote/advertise Blog as
effectively as possible, and implementing those
methods;
• Brainstorming ideas for blog
discussions;
• Responding to blog
postings to promote and enhance dynamic
discussion by engaging participants;
•
Producing any written material/ final products
for CNP based on blog
discussions.
Assistance with design
of new website
• Assisting CNP
staffer who will be the point person on
managing the design of the new website;
•
Facilitating communication between Web
Consultant and CNP by setting up appointments,
phone calls, meetings, etc.;
•
Conducting research to assess the features of
the websites of
organizations similar to CNP to analyze their
strengths &
weaknesses, and to develop ideas on how we can
make CNP’s new website
stand out from the pack;
• Communicating
those assessments to Web Consultant and
CNP
•
Giving feedback on design possibilities to
assess what is working about
potential designs, and how the weaknesses of
designs may be improved;
• Helping Web
Consultant and CNP meet
deadlines.
