Dr. Stephen Flynn
WASHINGTON, DC - Dr. Stephen Flynn, President of the Center for National Policy, an independent think tank in Washington focused on the importance of infrastructure, resiliency, and security issues, released the following statement today in response to President Obama's remarks on rebuilding America's infrastructure and today's trip to Florida to highlight a new high-speed rail project:

"I was very glad to see President Obama highlight the importance of rebuilding America's infrastructure in last evening's State of the Union Address.  As he rightly noted, this issue holds the potential for many thousands of new jobs across the United States. Beyond the economic benefits, a renewed focus on infrastructure has clear links to our national security as well, as I highlighted along with Gov. Ed Rendell at the Center for National Policy just last week.  A world-class hybrid infrastructure is essential to ensuring that the United States can be resilient in the face of both natural and man-made disasters as well as remaining the leader in the global economy—all of which are vital elements of our national security."

"I hope that today's event in Tampa will mark a renewed focus on the vital importance of infrastructure.  This issue perfectly represents the nexus of national security, societal resilience, economic competitiveness, and environmental sustainability imperatives. The Center for National Policy looks forward to working with citizens and public and private sector leaders across the country to promote and achieve these goals."
