A CNP Panel Discussion with John Deng and Scott Kastner

August 22, 2006

Despite the challenges facing America in other regions of the world, Taiwan sees America as crucial to the maintenance of peace and security and to the promotion of democracy.  That was one of the observations made on Monday, August 22 at the Center for National Policy by John Deng, deputy Washington representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office and Dr. Scott Kastner, Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland.

Hosted by CNP's Vice President Scott Bates and Distinguished Fellow Maureen Steinbruner, the discussion of U.S.-Taiwanese relations covered a wide range of issues, including cross-strait relations, Taiwan's interest in a free trade agreement with the U.S., and the domestic Taiwanese drivers of Taipei's foreign and economic policies.
